Symposium Promotes Closer Relationships in Healthcare Community
The University of Scranton will host the 18th annual Healthcare Symposium, titled “Innovation in Population Health Management,” which brings together healthcare professionals, students and consumers. Sponsored by the Scranton chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the symposium will be presented on Thursday, April 18, in the McIlhenny Ballroom of the DeNaples Center.
Participants will have the opportunity to receive continuing education for professional development, learn about changes in the healthcare industry, and exchange information and ideas with members of other healthcare organizations.
Following a reception and dinner, Dennis J. Kain, president of Tyler & Company, will deliver the keynote address describing how real-life organizations can team up to improve our nation’s health. A leader in healthcare operations and national consulting for more than 30 years, Kain has conducted searches for large health networks, academic medical centers and community hospitals across the country. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College, Easton, and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Three reactions to Kain’s address will offer perspectives from hospitals, physician practices and insurance firms, as well as ideas about how each sector of the healthcare industry addresses and utilizes techniques to manage the health of populations. Reaction presenters are William Cors, M.D., vice president and chief medical quality officer for Pocono Medical Center; John Haney, chief operating officer for St. Luke’s Physician Group; and Brian Rinker, senior vice president of health plan operations for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of NEPA.
Linda Stout, president of NEPA Health Management Forum, will offer closing remarks.
The goal of the symposium is to raise long-term quality of care and improve coordination across all healthcare settings.
